Jason C. Lawson

Ph.D.

Dr. Jason Lawson earned his Master’s of Science in Occupational Therapy degree in 2003 at the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota. He also earned his PhD in Teaching and Learning in 2015 at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Jason currently teaches full time for entry-level occupational therapy programs offered at the University of Mary where he enjoys teaching clinical courses across the lifespan as well as occupational therapy theory and research. Jason also supervises occupational therapy students in a pro-bono clinic, during a pediatric psychosocial level I fieldwork, during an interdisciplinary adult- later lifespan level I fieldwork, and an international level I fieldwork in a school system for children with disabilities in Lima, Peru.

Prior to transitioning into academia in 2011, Jason began working in a hospital in rural North Dakota where he saw a variety of patients in acute care, intensive care, and transitional care floors. He also evaluated and treated clients for the hospital’s inpatient and outpatient psychiatric units, as well as the facility’s home health care agency. After a couple years in that setting, Jason transitioned into a new role as the only OTR for an outpatient facility that specialized in working with pediatric clients and adult rehabilitation/orthopedic clients. This clinic also contracted services for two community skilled nursing facilities where he also provided and coordinated OT services.
